Contact your Delegate to SUPPORT Delegate Seibold’s HB2041 to expand use of speed safety cameras to high-risk corridors (currently only allowed in school and work zones). HB2041 reported from House Transportation 12-Y 10-N on Jan. 30, after Delegate Seilbold committed to work toward an amendment before a House Floor vote expected on Monday, February 3. Unresolved concerns prompting a floor amendment are (1) diversion of safety camera revenue from localities to VDOT and (2) device calibration requirements.

Contact your Senator to SUPPORT Senator Ebbin’s SB1416. This bill would update Virginia code to be more effective at prosecuting drivers who strike and injure a vulnerable road user who is legally within a crosswalk. See this recent Washington Post article. We expect an updated SB1416 to be heard during the 8 AM Monday, February 3 Senate Courts of Justice Committee meeting.
Please thank Senators who voted YES for Senator Williams Graves’ SB1233. SB1233 passed the Senate 24-Y 15-N.
- SB1233 would allow use of photo enforcement for crosswalk and stop sign violations (not just speed violations) at school crossing zones, highway work zones, and high-risk intersections.

Please thank Senators who voted YES for Senator Surovell’s substitute SB1007. SB1007 passed the Senate with near-unanimous support on January 31.
- SB1007 would direct the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) to convene a stakeholder group and recommend options by Oct. 1, 2025 for funding Bike & Ped projects in NoVA
- All Senators voted YES on SB1007 or indicated that they intended to vote YES, except Senator Boysko, an NVTA member, who abstained from voting.
