Fewer than five days remain in the 2025 Regular Session of the Virginia General Assembly. Please ask your Delegate to SUPPORT these two Senate bills that will be voted on in the House of Delegates this week:
- Senator Ebbin’s SB1416 – Passed the Senate 40-Y 0-N. Creates a Class 1 Misdemeanor for killing or seriously injuring a vulnerable road user who was lawfully within a crosswalk. Update: The House voted 75Y-20N to pass SB1416 on Feb. 19.
- Senator Williams Graves’ SB1233 – Passed the Senate 24-Y 15-N. The Senate version allows jurisdictions to use pedestrian crosswalk violation and stop sign violation monitoring systems. The House Transportation Committee reported a substitute bill that did not include pedestrian crosswalk violation and stop sign violation monitoring systems. The differences will likely be sorted out in conference. VBF strongly supports and prefers the Senate version of SB1233. Update: The House substitute version of SB1233 was passed by the Senate 52Y-44N on Feb. 18.
How to take action: Simply call or email your Delegate’s office to express your support for SB1416 and the Senate version of SB1233, to improve safety for vulnerable road users. If you’re unsure who your Delegate is or how to contact their office, enter your address here.
