The VBF initiated communications with Amtrak (Joe Boardman) to allow bikes on trains resulting in a pilot project on the Capitol Limited (October, 2013) and the creation of the Amtrak Bicycle Taskforce (December, 2013).  This has resulted in over 50,000 bikes being carried on trains (CY 2018, 2019).  These efforts have also resulted in retrofitting existing Amtrak passenger cars (Amfleet) opening up virtually every train to carry bikes.
